why on the web?

relative to printing:

• near-zero marginal cost

• easy, cheap to produce

• hypertext - no flipping pages!

• can integrate with e-texts

relative to CDROM:

• upgrading, revising easy

• immediate feedback

• standardized interface

• accessible world-wide

• can interlink with other sites

but...

• not portable

• smaller visual area

but...

• usually slower

• hard to charge
